Lavender Chicks in a Silver Barn!

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

You have to check out these cute lavender chicks (or hens, which are more like it) I bought last month at Silver Barn Antiques in Columbus, Texas. I LOVE Silver Barn Antiques for several reasons. First of all, they have some very unique finds for your home, and lots of great choices for that special gift for the person who has everything. Most importantly they carry top of the line body care – and because they have SUCH distinguished taste, their body care line includes Hummingbird Farms Aromatherapy Body Care. Of course!

Now take a closer look and you will see that these hens are actually made of lavender buds. Check it out!
Isn’t that great! This is going to be my next project. Well – let me restate that. This will be my mother’s next project. Between the two of us, I think we can figure out how she can make these cute little lavender hens.

They’re basically made out of styrofoam and loose lavender buds. Now Lord knows I have bushels and bushels of lavender buds! So – Mom, if you’re reading this, go buy styrofoam and let’s get started!

The tail looks like pieces of shaved bark.

The wings are made of the same shaved bark, which I’m sure you can find at any craft store.

The red stuff is crepe paper. Not sure yet what the little beak is. Who knows, maybe Michael’s sells little chicken beaks. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on how to make these lavender hens I’m all ears. I think it would be a great project.

In the meantime, if you would rather just buy them (which is what I did), contact Silver Barn Antiques and I’m sure they will fix you right up!
