Insomnia, Earrings, and QVC!

Friday, August 26th, 2016

There has been a joke inside my family for years anytime one of them asks me where I got something new, and there is usually a typical response before I speak:  "Oh don't tell me - QVC!" I have been a QVC shopper for years.  It all started in 2000 or 2001, when I was on a business trip and couldn't sleep.  As I tossed and turned in my hotel bed for what seemed like hours, I finally got tired of fighting it and grabbed the remote control next to the bed and flipped on the TV.  There was not much to watch of any interest at 2am, so I kept surfing channels and finally landed on QVC.  Jewelry.  Perhaps I was delirious from my lack of sleep, but those gold hoop earrings were the most perfect earrings I had ever seen.  And of course the way they were displayed and how the show host's perfectly manicured hands would lightly caress them AND how the models looked in them - I needed those earrings.  As I continued to watch, enthralled with all the words they could find to describe a very simple pair of earrings, my heart began to get a bit racy when I learned that these perfect earrings were a one-time-only offer and that they would not be getting anymore.  I literally had only another minute to make up my mind or I would never again have this one chance for the perfect gold earrings.  So I caved.  I dialed in and the lady on the other end of the line was very friendly and even commented on how beautiful the earrings were and how fortunate I was to get them.

Of course the next day I had a bit of buyer's remorse, thinking I could not believe I had bought something from TV.  But you know what? Those earrings showed up a few days later and I loved them! They were exactly how the show host described them and I really, really liked them.  I wore them for years.  In fact I still have one sitting in my jewelry box!  I have no idea where I lost the other one, but why in the world would I throw away a perfectly good one earring?

So began my almost 2 decades of QVC shopping and my ability to humor my friends and family with all my purchases (but they seldom joke around about it anymore because now several of them have seen the light and are now QVC shoppers, too!).  I used to even joke around about me being on QVC selling my lotion.  In fact, here is a post I wrote on my blog in 2008.  So as you can imagine, I canNOT BELIEVE I AM ON QVC!!! It really makes me believe it was all meant to be... Did I somehow cause this to happen through my own thoughts?

I am getting ready for my 4th airing, and it still feels like a dream.  But --- how it all happened is a story in and of itself.  So - stay tuned! Next post I will tell you about the phone call that turned our world around!
